“Ugh, it’s Monday.” How many times have you woken up thinking that, or said it to others? “I have the Monday blues,” “It’s almost Friday,” and “I can’t wait for my vacation,” slip off the tongue pretty easily too. So many people are just wishing their lives away without even realizing it, and then complain that time is flying by too quickly.
When we spend our days always wishing it were the weekend, it takes us out of the present moment, which prevents us from truly enjoying our lives to the fullest. This isn’t to say we can’t look forward to upcoming events or reminisce about the past, but when we spend the majority of our time thinking about anything but what we are doing right now, we are missing out bigtime.
I’m amazed and in awe of my three year old. She is fully present in everything in which she engages. When she’s playing with her doll house, she’s playing with her dollhouse. When I am reading books to her, she is completely focused on that. There is no dwelling on the tantrum she had this morning, or worrying about bedtime tonight. She is just present, and (most of the time) loving life.
You may wonder how to be happy it’s Monday, if you hate your job, or whatever commitment is on your agenda. I say, would you rather have not woken up at all? How can you make the day more enjoyable? Smile at a stranger, listen to music that makes you want to dance, compliment someone, drink a yummy coffee, focus on your breath, look at a photo that makes you smile, etc.
It’s a hell of a lot easier to be miserable each day and dwell on the ick, but it’s way more fun to be present. Feel the breeze in your hair, the warmth of your boots, and the energy that connects us all as humans.
Stop wishing your life away! Carpe Diem-seize the day! You will never get today back, so try and make the most of it, because before you know it, life will have passed you by.
Try this one on for size…YAY, IT’S MONDAY! It’s a brand new day, with unlimited opportunity to get psyched about life! It’s a brand new day to see what’s going right, and it’s a brand new day that can be whatever you choose to make it.
Happy Day!
